Contemporary dance is just like the art of conversation.
It’s eloquent communication —
expressed through body language.

Discover welcoming and accessible contemporary dance!
NEW site-specific choreography specially commissioned by Casa Romantica Cultural Center and Gardens is performed by southern California’s most innovative dancers from Helios Dance CompanyThe Assembly Dance, and Westside Dance Projects/Orange County Ballet Theater.

From the romantic intensity of Helios’ Minor Obsessions duets to the honesty of The Assembly’s duet, Wherever You Are, This One’s For You (set to music by Elvis Presley and Buddy Holly), there is simply no way NOT to feel close to the stories told through movement.

Each dance company has created an original work to present at a location throughout our historic estate. A traditional set of performances from each company will follow in Casa Romantica’s intimate Main Salon. This unique participatory event is the first of its kind in Orange County.

VIP tickets include access to a champagne afterparty with Casa Romantica Executive Director Berenika Schmitz, Helios Founder/Artistic Director Laura Gorenstein Miller, The Assembly Co-Founder/Artistic Director Lara Wilson, and company dancers.

Casa KINETIC is proudly sponsored by Fluidmaster.

Minor Obsessions

Minor Obsessions

Minor Obsessions is a suite of dances that offer a peephole:  into the contemporary complexities of love and adulthood in a moment of pervasive technology and imperiled privacy.  Do we all want to be watched all the time? How are dance, exposure, and the urge to watch and be watched, both very old and very new?  Entangled and intertwined, these duets aim to explore the tension between precision and freedom.

Including HEROES: a dance in mixed reality as premiered at Sundance 2017.  Dance up close like never before. The story comes off the screen, putting you into your body and challenging you to move, navigate heroic shifts in perspective and scale and reach out to touch the experience. Created in augmented reality, virtual reality, and film.

FAM - LA Contemporary Dance Co.

LACDC performs the world premiere of "FAM", an evening length work of movement, film, video design, intense practical visuals and rhythmic landscapes, featuring the full company of twelve dancers. Choreographed by new Artistic Director Genevieve Carson and set to the intoxicating soundscape of Jamie XX’s new album “In Colour," FAM explores the tight knit relationships formed between dancers during the intimate process of developing work. Performers knead together broad pictures, ignite smaller moments and complete visual worlds only to break them down quickly, emphasizing the fleeting nature of art making and the tumbling sensation of the creative process.

Incorporated into "FAM" will be the world premiere of the short dance film “Sleep Sound,” filmed at Bombay Beach on the Salton Sea, choreographed by Carson and directed by Nathan Kim.
